Community Colleges, also known as Junior Colleges, serve students in their local community, usually at a very affordable tuition level. Community Colleges provide job skills and training to students, and typically also offer transfer programs to state colleges and universities.

Dual enrollment classes allow high school students to earn college credit, saving money and time. More than half of Alabama’s freshmen and sophomores study at one of our colleges to earn an associate’s degree or transfer to an upper-level institution. Marion Military Institute, the oldest military junior college in the nation, provides opportunities for entry into the service academies of all branches of the armed forces and provides students with one of the few opportunities in the nation to achieve a second lieutenant’s commission after earning an associate’s degree.

Statement
New Jersey’s 19 community colleges provide over 1,700 high-quality transfer programs, occupational programs, continuing education courses, business support services, and community service programs at a reasonably low cost in response to local and statewide needs. The mission of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges is to provide statewide leadership for the advancement of New Jersey’s 19 community colleges and to perform sector coordinating responsibilities as required by state law.
New Mexico
Statement
New Mexico is a unique state with excellent opportunities for higher education. There are seven four-year public postsecondary institutions, three of which are research universities; ten two-year branch community colleges; seven two-year independent community colleges; and four Tribal postsecondary institutions.
North Dakota
Statement
North Dakota Community Colleges offer career and technical education programs that prepare students for direct entry into the workforce, as well as associate’s degrees designed for transfer into specific bachelor’s degree programs.
Oklahoma

The State System is comprised of 25 colleges and universities – including two research universities, 10 regional universities, one public liberal arts university and 12 community colleges – and 11 constituent agencies and two university centers. The State System is coordinated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, and each institution is governed by a board of regents.
