Guy Reschenthaler is a Republican who has won a seat in the US House of Representatives in Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District. He has a few years of political experience, serving in the Senate in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, District 37.

About Guy Reschenthaler

Reschenthaler was born in 1983 in Western Pennsylvania. He currently lives in Pittsburgh.

Education

He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College in 2004. During his time there, he received the Most Outstanding First Year Student Award. After graduating he attended Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh earning a JD in 2007. During his time there, he founded the Military Law Society chapter and interned at the US District Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh.

Military Career

After Reschenthaler finished law school, he served in the US Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) in Iraq. In 2010 he was one of the three attorneys who defended a Navy SEAL who was accused of covering up an assault on terrorist Ahmad Hashim Abd al-Isawi. Reschenthaler was also awarded the Michael Taylor Shelby Award for Professional, Ethics and Dedication in the practice of law. He left the Navy in 2012.

Civilian Transition

Guy Reschenthaler has plenty of work experience after the military. He returned to Pittsburgh to practice law in 2012 and then was elected Magisterial District Judge in Pittsburgh’s South Hills in 2013. He then went on to be elected District Judge in May of 2013. During his time as a magistrate he worked to reduce truancy and fought to prevent cyberbullying in schools. He also worked at the Pittsburgh law firm Brennan, Robins & Daley and served as a member of Penn State Behrend’s Political Science Advisory Board.

Political Career

Reschenthaler won the general election for a seat in the Senate in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s 37th District. He won the general election and was sworn-in on November 24, 2015, to serve the remainder of current state Senator, Matt Smith’s term, after he resigned. He was re-elected for that position in November of 2016. He also ran for the Republican nomination in the special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional district in 2017, but he was defeated by Rick Saccone. Then, in May of 2018, he defeated Rick Saccone for the Republican nomination for Pennsylvania’s newly redistricted 14th Congressional District before he went on to win the General election in November of 2018. During his time in the State Senate he has been on the Rules and Executive Nominations, Banking and Insurance, Community, Economic and Recreational Development, Intergovernmental Operations, Judiciary, and Law and Justice Committees.

Military and Veterans’ Issues

As a veteran, attorney, and state senator, he will bring his work and political experience to his job in the US House of Representatives. National security, jobs and the economy, immigration, and tax cuts and job acts are issues that are important to him based on his website.
