College Scholarships for Wounded Warriors, Military Spouses and Dependents of Disabled Veterans

Non-profits, universities, states, and businesses recognize the unique challenges faced by disabled veterans.  These organizations honor the service and sacrifice of disabled and deceased veterans, as well as their family members and caregivers with a variety of scholarships for disabled veterans and their spouses and dependent children.

 


Paralyzed Veterans of America Scholarship

Multiple recipients; $2,500 for full-time students, $1,000 for part-time students

The Details: Funded by the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s (PVA) Educational Scholarship Program, awards are available to PVA members and their immediate family members.

Purple Heart Scholarship Program

Multiple Recipients; up to $5,000

The Details: The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) awards scholarships to Purple Heart recipients, their spouses, children and grandchildren who are members of MOPH and pursuing their first degree or certificate at a US college, university or trade school.

Applicants must have or expect to receive a high school diploma or GED, be accepted or enrolled as a full-time student, and maintain a 2.75 minimum GPA.

Colorado Technical University Patriot Scholarships

50 recipients; 100% tuition, textbooks and laptop

The Details: Colorado Technical University’s (CTU) Patriot Scholarships support wounded warriors affected by injuries received in the service of the US Armed Forces.

Applicants must be active duty or honorably discharged and have received or be receiving medical treatment for service-connected disabilities with a disability rating of at least 30%. Spouses, non-medical attendants, caregivers and dependent children are also eligible to apply.

Applicants must meet CTU’s application requirements and have proof of high school graduation or equivalent.

Liberty University Heroes Fund Scholarship

The Details: The Heroes Fund Scholarship is a “gap” scholarship that covers tuition and fees at Liberty University after other financial and military aid sources have been applied.

Folds of Honor Higher Education Scholarships

Multiple recipients; $5,000 a year, up to $2,500 a term

The Details: Folds of Honor scholarships are awarded to spouses and dependents of deceased, 10% or more disabled veterans or active duty Purple Heart recipients who are attending accredited higher education or certificate/license/ technical programs for their first degree or certificate.

Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, and provide proof of qualifying veteran status.

Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships

Multiple recipients; amount varies

The Details: The Fisher House Foundation’s Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships are merit-based scholarships for unmarried dependents aged 24 or less of deceased or 100% disabled veterans killed or wounded in active military service since September 11, 2001.

Applicants must provide proof of their service member’s status, be enrolled in DEERS and pursuing a bachelor’s degree as a full-time student at an accredited US college or university. Applicants must meet GPA minimums, demonstrate extra-curricular activities and work experience, and write an essay.

No Greater Sacrifice

Multiple Recipients; up to Full Tuition for 4 years

The Details: No Greater Sacrifice (NGS) delivers up to 4 years of full tuition, debt-free college education to children of our nation’s Post 9/11 fallen and wounded Service members.   This is good for those pursuing bachelor’s or associate degrees from an approved institution or certificate from a trade school.

Hope For the Warriors Military Spouse and Caregiver Scholarship Program

5 recipients; $1,500 to $2,500

The Details: The Hope for the Warriors Military Spouse and Caregiver Scholarship Program offers 5 scholarships for post-9/11 military spouses and caregivers. The scholarships support a variety of academic and career goals. Applicants must apply for services through the Hope for Heroes website, provide proof of the service member’s service and injury or death, write an essay, provide a letter of recommendation and complete a questionnaire.

Patriot Legacy Fund Scholarships

Multiple recipients, amount varies

The Details: The Patriot Legacy Fund offers at least 4 need-based scholarships each year.

Applicants must be unmarried dependents of US veterans with a 10% or higher VA disability rating. They must be under 24 years old and enrolled, accepted or pending acceptance in an undergraduate program at an accredited academic or vocational institution.

Applicants must be pursuing their first undergraduate level degree or certificate. Applicants must also maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Florida Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans (CSDDV)

Multiple recipients; up to 100% of tuition and fees

Who’s Eligible: Dependent children and un-remarried spouses of deceased, POW/MIA or 100% disabled Florida veterans who are enrolled in their first undergraduate degree or certificate program are eligible for scholarships from the State of Florida.
