English Degrees for Military & Veterans

Maryville University describes English degrees teaching "traditional skills, such as exploring literary masterworks and learning to critique literature" noting, "English majors have opportunities to become talented writers with communication skills that can benefit nearly every industry." There's an English degree available at nearly every academic level, though not all schools offer degree programs from certificates to PhDs or MFAs.

A Degree in English provides students with a great foundation in academics and for a wide variety of future careers. Writing and effective communication are fundamental skills required in every industry.
There are an abundance of campus-based, online, and hybrid degree programs across the US. There are also many accelerated programs allowing students to earn two English degrees in a short amount of time.

Many schools offer a Certificate in English. However, certificate programs in English don't typically cover writing, reading, literature studies, and communication skills. Instead, English certifications are typically geared towards language proficiency, teaching, or a specialization such as writing, literature, etc.
