Save money on your next appliance purchase!

Whether you went through a PCS and need to buy new appliances, or just want to upgrade, you will want to use these student and military appliance discounts on your next purchase. There are quite a few stores and companies that offer them so you can save a bit of money when shopping. 

Whirlpool 

At Whirlpool you can find appliances for your kitchen, laundry and home, as well as parts and accessories. They offer 15% as a military discount on most products, free returns for 60 days, free delivery, install, and haul-away on orders over $1,000, price matching, and exclusive offers. They also offer 15% as a student discount. With Sheer ID. 

Maytag

Maytag is owned by Whirlpool so their military discount is the same. Maytag does have its own products, but they are similar to what Whirlpool has to offer. They also offer a student discount. 

Lowe’s 

At Lowe’s you can find dishwashers, refrigerators, washers and dryers, and more. They offer a 10% military discount. You will need to sign up for MyLowe’s to get started. Lowe’s does not currently offer a student discount. 

Home Depot

Similar to Lowe’s, Home Depot sells a variety of appliances. They also offer a 10% military discount if you sign up for their program. They do not have a student discount. 

Appliances Connection 

At Appliances Connection you can find appliances for laundry, cooking, and more. They offer a military discount through Veterans Advantage. You can also find a student discount with ID.me and save $50 off of a $1,000 purchase. 

Samsung

Samsung doesn’t just sell your typical electronics, they also sell appliances such as microwaves, washers, dryers, ovens, dishwashers, and more. You can save up to 40% and get free shipping with Veterans Advantage or 30% on their website. They also offer student discounts on appliances. 

GE Appliances

GE Appliances includes the brands Monogram, Café, GE Profile, Haier, and Hotpoint. They offer savings to the military with ID.me. They do not appear to have a student discount.

Electronic Express 

Electronic Express offers appliances such as laundry items, appliances for the kitchen, and more. They offer a military discount to members of the military, military family members, veterans, and retirees. They have a list of savings on their website such as saving 6% on seasonable appliances or housewares. They do not appear to have a student discount. 

Best Buy 

At Best Buy you can find a wide range of appliances. They have the Back to School Student hub offering discounts for students. They do not have a national military discount but you might be able to find them on an individual basis. 

Abt

Abt offers appliances, home essentials, and more. They have a military and student discount through ID.me. The discount is for $50 off of a $500 or more purchase. 

The Exchange 

The Exchange sells all types of appliances from washers and dryers, to cooking appliances, freezers, and more. You can shop at the Exchange tax-free which will offer you plenty of savings on the cost of appliances. Saving 6% on a $1,000+ purchase can make for a great discount. You can purchase in-store or online.

Best Western gets its name from the first properties being west of the Mississippi River, but today, they have over 4,100 hotels worldwide.

At Hotels.com you can enter where and when you want to stay and find a better deal than you might otherwise find on a specific hotel website. You can get both a military discount and a student discount at Hotels.com.

Hilton Hotels

Hilton was founded in 1919 when Conrad Hilton bought his first hotel in Cisco, TX.

HostelWorld is the biggest and best hostel booking platform in the world. They have over 17,000 hostels listed across over 170 countries worldwide. You can get an 8% student discount through Student Beans.

IHG Hotels

IHG stands for InterContinental Hotels and can be traced back to 1777 when William Bass established the Bass Brewery in Burton-Upon-Trent. IHG Hotels was created in 2003 focusing on hotels and drinks.

Marriott Hotels

Marriot was founded in Washington D.C. in 1927. They started with a root beer stand and then a hotel. You can also find long-term housing for TDYs and PCSing at the Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites, and Marriott Executive apartments.

Motel 6

Motel 6 was started in 1960 by two commercial real estate contractors in Southern California. They went on a road trip and were disappointed by the lack of affordable lodging along the way.

Wyndham Hotels

Wyndham Hotels was founded in 1981 in Dallas, TX, and was named after a friend.

Whether you are going to school, want to play games, or work from home, you are going to need a laptop or computer. While some companies or schools might give you a device, you may need or want to buy your own laptop or computer. While a new computer can be an expensive purchase, you can save some money using student and military discounts on laptops and computers. Here are the companies that offer them.

The Exchange

One of the first places you will want to check for a new laptop or computer would be your local Military Exchange. You can find products for a good price, and won’t have to pay any tax on them. This can make a huge difference on higher-priced items. You could end up saving between $50-$100 based on the price of the product and what you would normally pay for taxes.

HP

HP or Hewlett-Packard sells laptops, desktops, gaming PCs, and more. They have the HP Frontline Heroes Store for military discounts on laptops, computers, and more. They also have the HP Education Store for student discounts. For both, you can find a savings of 40%, and will need to be verified with ID.me.

Apple

Apple products include the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and more. They have a Veterans and Military Store and an Education Store with student pricing. While Apple offers discounts to both veterans and military, and students, you will be able to save a little more with the apple military discount.

Dell

Dell has laptops, desktops, 2-in-1 PCs, home computers, and more. They give out both a Dell student discount and a Dell military discount on laptops and other products. You can also get 10% off with Veterans Advantage for the military, or save up to $400 off of a PC with UNiDays with a student discount. With Dell, there are different options for discounts and in some cases, you might be able to save more with the military discount.

Microsoft

Microsoft has laptops and computers, and the popular Surface Pro and other Surface products. You can find 5-10% discounts for students and the military. With their student and military discount, you would get up to 10% off eligible computers and accessories, 5% off of Surface Pro, and free Office 365. Some exceptions do apply. You would need to sign into your Microsoft account to get started.

Lenovo

Lenovo sells 2-in-1 laptops, business laptops, gaming laptops, desktops, workstations, and more. With the student discount, you can save up to 65% on select Student PCs and Accessories, plus an extra 5% discount with ID.me. With the military discount, you can save 5% with ID.me.

Best Buy

Best Buy has laptops, desktops, monitors, gaming PCs, and more. While there is no Best Buy military discount, they do have a Best Buy School Student Hub with student discounts. Within the hub, you can find lists of items college students would need and other information about tech for college students.

Going out to eat is a great way to spend time with family and friends. However, going out to eat can get pricey fast. Luckily, you can find student and military discounts to save a little bit of money on your bill when you do go out to eat.

Arby’s 

Arby’s is an American fast food restaurant that focuses on roast beef sandwiches, fries, and more. They have a 10% student discount with ID, and you might be able to find a military discount at some locations.

Buca di Beppo

Buca di Beppo is an American restaurant chain that specializes in Italian-American food. They offer a 10% student discount. You might also be able to get a free lunch on Veterans Day.

Buffalo Wild Wings

Buffalo Wild Wings is an American casual dining restaurant and sports bar franchise with things, chicken tenders, and appetizers. They offer 10% off as a student discount or a military discount. Just show your ID.

Burger King 

Burger King is an American-based multinational chain of hamburger fast-food restaurants known for their Whopper. You can get a 10% student discount off their purchases with a student ID. Some participating Burger Kings do offer a 10% military discount.

Chick Fil A

Chick Fil A is an American fast food restaurant chain specializing in chicken sandwiches. You can get a 10% student or military discounts at participating locations.

Chipotle 

Chipotle is a Mexican fast food restaurant with burritos, bowls, tacos, and salads. Show your student ID for a free drink. They don’t seem to have a current military discount but sometimes offer Veterans Day deals.

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf 

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is an American coffee shop chain with coffees, teas, and pastries. They have a 10% student discount with ID verification through Student Beans.

Dominos

Dominos is a fast food pizza place with delivery and take out options. They offer a 35% student discount with UNiDays.

Dunkin’ Donuts 

Dunkin’ Donuts offers coffee, donuts, and quick breakfasts. They have a 10% student discount with your student ID. You might also be able to find a 10% military discount at some locations or a free donut deal on Veterans Day.

Firehouse Subs 

Firehouse Subs is a sandwich shop specializing in premium subs, sub sandwiches, and salads. You can get a 10% off student discount with a valid student ID.

IHOP

IHOP is an American multinational pancake and breakfast restaurant specializing in American breakfast foods. They offer a 10% student discount or a 20% military discount at the owner’s discretion.

Papa John’s 

Papa John’s is an American pizza restaurant. You can get 10-20% off a pizza or a side.

Shoney’s 

Shoney’s is a family-oriented chain restaurant serving all-American diner-style food. They offer a 15% student discount at participating locations and a 15% military discount at all company-owned Shoney’s and participating franchises locations.

Waffle House

Waffle House is a restaurant chain offering American diner food and all-day breakfasts. They offer a 10% student discount on waffles and coffee. Some Waffle Houses also have a military discount.

 

As you can see, there are quite a few food choices where you can get a little discount on your food. Make sure to use these when you visit these places.

Skillshare does not advertise how much their subscription is, even in their terms of service. I’ve contacted the company to inquire about a monthly or yearly cost, but as of this writing I’ve not heard back from them.

On Apple’s App Store, the in-app purchases are listed as follows:

  1. Monthly Premium Membership – $31.99
  2. Premium Membership – $18.99
  3. Annual Premium Membership – $169.99

So, it looks like there are two tiers for monthly membership, ranging in price from just under $20 to just over $30, monthly. The annual membership fee is unambiguous and is comparable in price to other services like Wondrium and MasterClass.

Skillshare Scholarships

However, Skillshare does offer Scholarships that cover 50% of Skillshare membership for current college and university students. For the annual membership, that comes to be about $85 in savings. All you need to apply for this scholarship is a valid student email address. 

Additionally, Skillshare awards a free year of access to 10 students every month. They encourage everyone to apply for this scholarship opportunity, especially those who are struggling financially. This is a good move for a growing company!

Finally, for anyone living in the United Kingdom, Skillshare is offering a free year of membership to workers whose furlough ended on 31 September 2021. There are only 100 of these scholarships, and they will go to the first eligible applicants. You have until December 31, 2021, to apply.

Marquis Mills Converse was a previous manager at a footwear manufacturing firm and opened the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in 1908 in Malden, MA. Originally, they produced winterized rubber soled footwear for men, women, and children.

By 1910, Converse was producing shoes daily.  They started with athletic shoes in 1915. In 1917, they introduced their Converse All-Star basketball shoe.

During World War II, they shifted production to manufacturing rubberized footwear, outerwear, and protective suits in the military. Afterwards, they resumed their athletic footwear when the war was over.

the company transformed sports footwear in 1917 with the development of an innovative, rubber-soled, ankle-stabilizing shoe for basketball known today as “Chuck Taylor All-Stars” or “Chucks.”

The shoes were named after the semi-pro basketball player who became a salesman for Converse, Charles Taylor. He shared his ideas for improving the shoe and over a century later, the style is seen all over the world.

Classic Chucks, trendy platforms, and Pro Leather versions of iconic styles – Converse captures today’s street culture. Their shoes, clothes and accessories reflect a commitment to “celebrating freedom of expression through individuals and their movement(s).”

Production moved overseas in 2001, and Footwear Acquisitions purchased the brand, followed by Nike’s acquisition of the brand in 2003.

Today, Converse has over 100 stores in the US and 63 stores around the world. Their headquarters are in Boston, MA.

From music to television to podcasts, there are so many different streaming services to sign up for these days. If you are a student, you will want to take advantage of these streaming services that offer a student discount.

Amazon Prime

With Amazon, you can find Prime Student. With Prime Student, you can receive a six-month free subscription that includes free two-day shipping, access to Prime with tv shows and movies, unlimited photo storage with Prime Photos, 20% off pre-orders and new release video games, and other deals and savings. After six months, you would only pay 50% off your membership. You would need to verify your student status.

In addition, Prime students can add Showtime for $.99/month for 12 months and then $10.99/month after that year is over.

Spotify, Hulu, and Showtime

Spotify is a digital music service, and Hulu is a movie and tv streaming service. Showtime will also be included. Spotify has Premium Student, lasting one year at a time, up to four years. The discount is for students at an accredited college or university, verified by Sheer ID. You would pay the reduced rate of $4.99/month for all three services.

Hulu

As of Jan 2021, Hulu announced that it’s dropping its on-demand service price to $1.99 / month. Students over 18, attending a college or university in the US are eligible. This is more than 65% off the standard $5.99 per month price tag.

Students would be able to access Hulu’s library of movies, TV shows, and Hulu originals.

Apple Music

With Apple Music, you can receive a discounted monthly rate for up to 48 months. With your year of Apple Music, you will also receive Apple TV + for a limited time. In order to receive this discount, you need to be enrolled in a degree-granting university or college. You would need to be studying and working towards a bachelor’s degree, post-graduate degree, or equivalent.

Audible

They do not seem to offer a current student discount. 

With Audible you can have access to audiobooks, for school, or for recreation. New members can join for $9.95 a month. You can save over 30% and receive a $10 Amazon.com credit. You must be a verified US student with a UNiDAYS membership.

Pandora

Pandora is another music streaming service. Students can receive 50% off Panera Premium for up to four years. Also, they can also receive up to 60 days free. Students must be at an accredited higher education institution in the US. Then, after 60 days, you would pay $4.99 a month.

Sirius XM

Sirius XM is an American broadcasting company that will give students three months, for $1 with a new premier subscription. After that, you would pay $4.00 a month. You would need to verify your student status with Sheer ID.

CBS All Access

With CBS All Access you can have access to many different CBS tv shows, original content, and more. They offer a 25% student discount if you sign up with your .edu account. This applies to the limited commercial subscription option.

YouTube Music

YouTube Music is a music streaming service by YouTube. They offer students a one-month free trial and then you would pay $4.99 a month after that. You would need to verify and re-verify your student status each year.

Tidal

Tidal is a subscription-based music, podcast, and video streaming service that combines lossless audio and high-definition music videos with exclusive content and special features. They offer a 50% student discount on their subscription tiers to eligible college and high school students who are 16 years or older. Each new sign-up also includes a 30-day trial. Student Premium will then be $4.99 a month, and Student HiFi will be $9.99 a month. They would verify with Sheer ID.

The special pricing for the Dell student discount and the Dell military discount is similar.  Both offer lower prices than if you shop from the regular website. In addition, the Military Membership page has an additional 10% off military discount.
