Jason Crow: Veteran, US Congressman from Colorado

Jason Crow

Jason Crow is a Democrat who was just elected to the US House of Representatives for Colorado’s 6th Congressional district. This was the first time he ran for a political office.

About Jason Crow

Jason was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1979. Married with two children, a boy and a girl, he and his family now live in Aurora, Colorado.

Education

He earned his graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002. During college Jason decided to join the National Guard and finished top of his class as the Distinguished Military Graduate. He then graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2009.

Military Career

Jason Crow served in this US Army from 2002-2006 as an Infantry Officer. During these years he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment and in the 82nd Airborne Division. He earned the Bronze Star for his service in the 2003 Battle of Samawah in Iraq and then went on to serve two tours in Afghanistan as part of the Joint Special Operations Task Force, serving along the Pakistan border and achieving the rank of Captain.

Civilian Transition

In 2006, he left the military and started his studies and his career in law. He works as a partner at the Holland and Hart law firm. During his time there, he has worked on cases ranging from investigations to defending civil criminal litigation and developing legal compliance programs.

Although he never ran for office before, he did speak at the Democratic Party’s national convention in support of then President Barack Obama’s re-election bid. He also advised President Obama’s re-election campaign on military and veterans’ issues, co-chaired Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper’s Veterans Affairs Transition Committee, and co-chaired Veterans for Mark Udall. He also served on the Colorado Board of Veterans Affairs from 2009-2014.

RELATEDColorado Veterans’ Benefits

Some of Jason Crow’s priorities as a member of the House will be reforming our campaign finance system and leveling the playing field for working families.

Veterans’ Issues

When it comes to veterans issues, he has pledged to make sure veterans get prompt medical and mental health care, and he is against privatizing the VA.

He supports providing mental health care to all veterans who need it, without regard to their discharge status. He also wants to enforce regulations that protect veterans from for-profit college that misleadingly entice and enroll veterans. He worked to secure the funding for the new VA hospital in Aurora. He has donated hundreds of hours of legal work at no cost to veterans and organizations that work to help veterans with substance abuse and other issues.

Jason Crow won against Republican Mike Coffman in the closely watched 6th Congressional District.
