Scholarships for Computer Science Majors

Majoring in computer science, or a similar subject is a great path to go down. There are many different jobs out there with that major, and a lot of different working environments. While in college, it would be good to find some scholarships. Here is a list of scholarships for computer science majors.

Stokes Educational Scholarship

Multiple recipients, Up to $30,000

The Details: This scholarship is open to high school seniors, particularly minority students, planning to major in computer science or computer/electrical engineering. They must be attending college full-time, then work during the summer at NSA’s headquarters in Fort Meade, MD for a minimum of 12 weeks in areas related to their course of study. The scholarship will pay for tuition and mandatory fees up to $30,000, a year-round salary while attending college, housing, and travel entitlements (as long as the distance between NSA and school is more than 75 miles). They will also receive paid time off, health and life insurance, and a federal retirement plan.

The Deadline: The application period runs from September 1st-November 15th.

Microsoft Tuition Scholarship

Multiple recipients, Varies

The Details: This scholarship is from Microsoft Corporation. This scholarship is to help encourage students to further their education in computer science and related STEM subjects.

Students must be enrolled full-time in a bachelor’s degree program at a 4-year college or university in the US, Canada, or Mexico. They must be showing satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related STEM major.

The Adobe Research Women-in-Technology Scholarship

This particular scholarship may no longer be active. However, Adobe does have other scholarships to explore. 

Multiple recipients, $10,000

The Details:

This scholarship includes:

  • $10,000 award
  • Creative Cloud subscription membership for a year
  • Opportunity to interview for an internship at Adobe

Students must be:

  • female
  • currently enrolled as an undergraduate, 2nd year or above, or be a master’s student
  • Majoring in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field
  • have a strong academic record
  • cannot have a close relative working for Adobe Research

PG&E Better Together STEM Scholarship

Multiple recipients, Between $1,000-$10,000

The Details: This scholarship is for those who are either a high school senior, a graduate, an undergraduate, or a post-secondary undergraduate. Veterans and adults returning to school can also apply. They have to have a primary residence that is a PG&E customer in California at the time of the application. They must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university, pursuing studies in STEM at a California college or university. They should also have an interest in the energy industry and STEM-related issues.

SMART Scholarship Program

Multiple recipients, Varies

The Details: The SMART Scholarship Program (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation), is there to help enhance the Department of Defense (DoD) workforce with talented, innovative, and brilliant scientists, engineers, and researchers.

Students will receive:

  • full tuition
  • monthly stipends
  • health insurance
  • book allowances
  • summer internship from 8-12 weeks

After receiving their degree, scholars will begin working in a civilian position with their sponsoring facility.

They must be pursuing a technical degree in one of the 21 STEM disciplines listed on the website.

Betty Stevens Frecknall Scholarship

Multiple recipients, $2,000

The Details: Betty Stevens Frecknall started her career in computers as a card punch operator. She retired as a level GS14 as manager of a large programmer group responsible for major projects within the HUD information systems infrastructure. She was an advocate of equal opportunity and access to career advancement for all qualified workers. Students will need to have a declared computer science major and have completed at least a full semester of college and enrolled full-time as an undergraduate at an accredited institution in the US.

Wayne V. Black Memorial

One recipient, $5,000

The Details: This scholarship is for full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing at an accredited college or university in the US or Canada. They must be working on a bachelor’s in engineering, engineering technology, computer science/MIS, pre-law, political science, telecommunications, or IT. Family members of active members of the ENTELEC board of directors are not eligible.

The Gladys Carol Scholarship

This scholarship is no longer active! 

Multiple recipients, Up to $5,000

The Details: This scholarship is open to high school students, high school graduates, and current undergrad level students, accepted or enrolled in a full-time STEM program up to $5,000. This is also merit-based and students would receive $2,500 for the first year, with a potential $2,500 the next year.

NSHSS STEM Scholarship

Multiple recipients, $1,000

The Details: This foundation provides STEM scholarships for underrepresented groups in order to help reduce financial barriers for those with academic and leadership potential and the desire to pursue STEM careers. They provide a $1,000 scholarship. It is open to high school seniors who are pursuing a degree in or closely related to the STEM fields listen on their website.

The Deadline: October

IEEE Presidents’ Scholarship

One recipient, $10,000

The Details:  This scholarship recognizes a deserving student for an outstanding project that demonstrates an understanding of electrical engineering, electronics engineering, computer science, or other IEEE fields of interest. They offer $10,000 over four years, plus a complimentary IEEE student membership.
