College Scholarships for Minorities

Do you identify as a minority? If so, you may be eligible for scholarships you weren’t aware of. Below is a list of 20 terrific national scholarships for minority students that you can be eligible for when enrolling in a military-friendly college.


African American Scholarships

CBC Spouse Education Scholarship

Award Varies

Description: For African-American or Black students pursuing a degree in theater, drama, comedy, music, dance, opera, marching bands, etc. Selected applicants will be constituents of a CBC member’s district. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and be enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution.

CBC Spouse Performing Arts Scholarship

Awards $3,000

Description:  For academically talented and highly motivated African-American or Black students pursuing associate, undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degrees. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be enrolled full-time in an accredited academic institution, and reside in a district represented by a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Charles Shelton Veterinarian Medicine/Technology Scholarship

Awards a total of two, $2,000 scholarships

Description: For African-American students pursuing a degree in veterinarian medicine or veterinarian technology. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who have demonstrated an interest and commitment to animal welfare. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA,

The Herbert Lehman Education Fund Scholarship

Award Varies

Description: For African-American students planning to attend formerly segregated four-year colleges and universities in the South and to increase the number of African Americans in the legal profession.

Mae & Mary Scholarship Fund

Award Varies

Description: For African-Americans graduating high school seniors who plan on attending a two-year or four-year university or technical school and pursuing a career in the health care profession.

Ron Brown Scholar Program

Award $40,000 ($10,000 per year)

Description: For community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans. Must be graduating high school seniors at the time of their application.

Arab Student Scholarships

Jack G. Shaheen Mass Communications Scholarship Award

Award $2,500

Description: Arab American students who excel in media studies. Applicants must be: currently enrolled as a junior, senior, or graduate student; majoring in journalism, radio, television and/or film; have a 3.0 GPA; and, be a U.S. citizen of Arab heritage.

Asian/Pacific Islander Scholarships

Against the Grain Groundbreaker Leadership Scholarship

Awards a total of $1,500

Description: For Asian-American college seniors and graduate students who have exhibited exemplary leadership, vision, and passion that is blazing a trail for others to follow and changing lives in the Asian-American community. (Must be of at least 25% Asian American or Pacific Islander.) GPA 3.5 of above.

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF)

Description: This organization funds a vast number of scholarships for students of Asian-American & Pacific Islander descent. Amounts and criteria vary.

The Korean Ancestry Grant Scholarships

 7 varied awards with a maximum of $10,000

Description: For undergraduate students with at least one Asian grandparent. There is a strong preference for applicants of Korean ancestry. The minimum GPA to apply is 3.50.

Republic of India / Asian Indian Scholarships

SEED Foundation Scholarship Foundation

Varies. Multiple awards.

Description: For high school seniors of Asian-Indian heritage with at least one parent of Indian ancestry with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who are enrolling full time in a U.S. university in the Fall of 2022. Must be a legal resident of the United States.

Upakar Indian-American Scholarship Foundation

Amount $2,000 per year for up to four years. Multiple awards.

Description: For American, or Green Card holding students who have either been born or have one parent born in the Republic of India.

Hispanic/Latino Scholarships

RMHC/HACER National Scholarship

Amount $2,000 per year for up to four years. Multiple awards.

Description: McDonald’s is giving away scholarships worth up to $100,000 to as many as 30 students with at least one parent of Hispanic heritage. Applicants must be a high school senior, a legal U.S. resident, younger than 21 years old, carry a minimum 3.0 GPA, eligible to attend a two- or four-year college or university with a full-time course of study and disclose other scholarship programs to which they have applied.

Native American Scholarships

American Indian Education Fund

200 awards of up to $2,000

Description: For American Indian and Alaska Native students.

American Indian Nurse Scholarship

Awards $1,500 per semester.

Description: To give students of American Indian descent the opportunity to pursue careers in nursing. The students are expected to return to work among their people to help improve health care.

Catching the Dream Program

Awards $5,000 three times per year.

Description: Native college students who demonstrate academic achievement, clearly defined goals, leadership, the determination to succeed, and the desire to return to their communities and help others realize their dreams. The award is offered three times a year. Applicants must be a quarter or more degree Native American and an enrolled member of a federally recognized U.S. tribe, attending college or university full-time and seeking a BA or higher.

Cherokee Nation College Resources

Awards vary.

Description:  For Cherokee Nation Tribal Citizens pursuing degrees at a college or university. Eligible applicants can be high school seniors, undergraduates, or returning students, and they must reside within the Cherokee Nation.

Chickasaw Nation Higher Education

Awards vary.

Description:  The Chickasaw Nation Higher Education Grant may be awarded to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students who maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher each semester.

Osage National Higher Education Scholarship

Awards Vary

Description: For Osage students pursuing post-secondary education at the associate level or beyond. A wide range of educational choices is supported, including associate, bachelor, master’s, and doctoral degree programs at accredited schools. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good standing to remain eligible for scholarship funding.
