Archaeology is the perfect job for those who want to study prehistory and human history. As an archaeologist, you will spend time on dig sites, in a lab, and analyzing your findings. While in school, you will take excavation methods, dating techniques, and ancient technology classes.

Jane C. Waldbaum Archaeological Field School Scholarship
Multiple recipients, $2,000
The Details: This scholarship is in honor of AIA Honorary President Jane Waldbaum. The scholarship is to help students who are planning to participate in archaeological fieldwork for the first time. The award money is to help with expenses associated with participation in an archaeological fieldwork project and is open to college juniors, seniors, and first-year graduate students.

Elizabeth Bartman Museum Internship
Multiple recipients, $1,000-$4,000
The Details: This scholarship, in honor of AIA Honorary President Elizabeth Bartman, assists advanced undergraduate and graduate students or those who have recently completed a master’s degree in Archaeology or a related field in meeting the expenses associated with undertaking a museum internship.

John R. Coleman Traveling Fellowship
Multiple recipients, $12,000
The Details: This fellowship honors the memory of John R. Coleman, who excavated at Aphrodisias and Morgantina. The award is for travel and study in Italy, the Western Mediterranean, or North Africa. Students must be AIA members at the graduate level and be engaged in dissertation research in a US graduate program.

The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program
Multiple recipients, Varies
The Details: This scholarship supports master’s and doctoral degrees in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology. The research proposals must align closely with NOAA’s mission. Financial need is also a part of the qualifying criteria.
