From biology to physics, to computers and economics, mathematics can be found everywhere. Mathematics makes for a great foundation for any of the STEM subjects and beyond. If you have a love of numbers, mathematics can be the perfect field to go into. Here is a list of scholarships for those majoring in mathematics. 

Davidson Fellows Scholarship

Multiple recipients, $10,000, $25,000, and $50,000

The Details: This scholarship is for gifted and high-achieving students, age 18 and under. They must have completed a significant piece of work. Application categories are science, technology, engineering, mathematics, literature, music, philosophy, and outside the box.

Fontana Transport Inc. Scholars Program

Multiple recipients, $5,000

The Details: This scholarship is for first-generation high school seniors who are underrepresented, need financial assistance, and are passionate about furthering their education. Students must be graduating high school, pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree in the US at any four-year accredited university by fall 2024, and plan to study any of the concentrations listed on their website, including math.

Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship

Multiple recipients, $1,000

The Details: This scholarship is sponsored by the ASA Committee on Women in Statistics and Caucus for Women in Statistics to encourage more women to enter statistically oriented-professions. There will be two recipients, one to a woman in or entering the early stages of graduate training at the master’s degree or Ph.D. level and one to a woman in a more advanced stage of training. There will also be honorable mentions. Students need to be women in the US or Canada, who are admitted to full-time study in a graduate statistics program.

Gladys Carol Scholarship

As of 2024, this scholarship will no longer be for STEM students but for Nursing students at Copper Mountain Community College!

Multiple recipients, Up to $5,000

The Details: This scholarship is open to high school seniors, high school graduates, and current undergraduate-level students. They must be accepted to or enrolled in a full-time STEM program at an accredited non-profit public or private 4-year college or university in the US. This scholarship is also merit-based.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Multiple recipients, Varies 

The Details: This fellowship program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based masters and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions. The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support including an annual stipend of $37,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the institution.

The Mikkelson Foundation

Multiple recipients, $5,000

The Details: This scholarship is for a graduate of a Colorado high school who has been accepted to pursue a course of study or instruction at the accredited college or university granting undergraduate and/or graduate degrees. The student will need to show an ability to excel in mathematics and science, major in engineering, physical, or biological sciences or mathematics, and have the potential for substantial additional achievement after graduation.

The Hammer Family Scholarship

One recipient, $5,000

The Details: This scholarship is from the Hammer family with the Marines’ Memorial Association and Foundation. Students must be a US veteran who has served since 2009. They also must be enrolled in a bachelor of science program and focusing on either engineering, math, or science.

PixelPlex Bi-Annual STEM Scholarship

One recipient, $2,000

The Details: This scholarship was established to help support and inspire students to pursue further education in the field of science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as economics and business. There will be one scholarship given out in the amount of $2,000. 

The Deadline: June and December

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation

Multiple Recipients, Varies

The Details: This scholarship was established by Congress in 1986 to be a living memorial to honor the lifetime work of Senator Barry Goldwater. He was a soldier and served 30 years in the US Senate. The scholarship is for college sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering fields. The award amount is equal to the cost of tuition, mandatory fees, books, and room and board. The amount of support by other sources will be deducted from the total and the award has a maximum of $7,500.
