Are you an active duty, Reserve, or veteran woman considering college? Whether you use the GI Bill or not, these scholarships for women service members can help ease the money pressures you may encounter on the way to your degree or certificate.

Dr. Nancy M. Schonher Scholarship

Sponsored by the Marines’ Memorial Association and Foundation, the Dr. Nancy M. Schonher Scholarship awards a $5,000 scholarship to a woman who is either an active duty service member or reservist in the U.S. Armed Forces, separated honorably from U.S. Armed Forces since 2016, or is a current or former corpsman or medic in any branch of the US Armed Forces.

Applicants must be enrolled in either an advanced medical program or an accredited paramedic program. Paramedic program applicants must have completed the EMT Basic training program, taken the National Registry EMT Examination, hold an EMT certificate, and have at least six months’ work experience. Preference is given to Navy Corpsmen.

Who’s Eligible?

Women who meet one of the following criteria may qualify to apply for the Schoner scholarship:

  • Active-duty service member
  • Reservist
  • Discharge classified as Honorable
  • Been out of the military since 2016
  • Is a current or former corpsman or medic
  • Is a child or grandchild of an active Marines’ Memorial member

U.S. Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Society Legacy Scholarships

The U.S. Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Society has several scholarship programs. Applicants must be a woman who has served honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve, or Army National Guard. In the past, these scholarships have included the following:

  • Community College Coursework AWF Legacy Scholarship
  • The Community College Legacy Scholarship has previously awarded up to $1,000. Applicants must be high school graduates with a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) or GED and be enrolled in an accredited community college.
  • Certificate Program AWF Legacy Scholarship
  • The Certificate Program Legacy Scholarship has previously awarded up to $1,000. Applicants must be high school graduates with a 2.5 Grade Point Average (GPA) or GED and be enrolled in an accredited certificate-granting institution.
  • Undergraduate Degrees AWF  Legacy Scholarship
  • College and University Legacy Scholarship awards may go up to $2,500. Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited college or university and have completed 30 credit hours of coursework with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Graduate Degrees AWF Legacy Scholarship
  • Graduate Program Legacy Scholarship awards in the past have gone up to $2,500. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled in or accepted into a graduate-level program, either master’s or doctoral.

Who’s Eligible?

According to the official site, women in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard may qualify for this scholarship. Also considered? The “lineal descendant of a woman who has served or is serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard.”

The AWF Legacy Scholarship Program supports women veterans in four areas: Certificate Programs, Community College coursework, Undergraduate Degrees, and Graduate Degrees.

Scholarships are awarded for classes taken in accredited institutions. According to the official site, these scholarships are based on “merit, academic potential, personal essay, community service, letters of recommendation, and financial need.”

Women’s Overseas Service League Scholarship

Applicants must be committed to advancement in the military or other public service careers. They must have completed a minimum of 12 semester (or 18 quarter) hours of study in any institution of higher education with a 2.5 minimum GPA and agree to maintain academic standards. The application deadline is in March.

Women’s Overseas Service League Scholarships average between $500 and $1,000.

Who’s Eligible?

Women who:

  • Are “committed to advancement in the military” or who seek public service careers?
  • Have completed a minimum of 12 semester (or 18 quarter) hours of study
  • Have a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
  • Are admitted for study in an institution of higher learning in a program leading to an academic degree.
  • Agree to enroll for at least six semester (or nine quarter) hours each term or semester.
  • Must maintain academic standards.

Women Marines Association Scholarship (WMA)

The scholarship amounts range between $500 and $5,000. The grant can be used at any accredited university, college, or college-level trade school. The application period is February 1st through March 31. To be considered, you must be sponsored by a WMA member.

Who’s Eligible

      • Those who have served
      • Currently serving in the United States Marine Corps or Reserve
      • Direct descendant
      • Siblings
      • A descendant of a sibling
      • Marine Corps JROTC program participants

Direct descendants, siblings, and descendants of siblings must be of blood relation, legally adopted, or stepchildren of a Marine who honorably served in the United States or who is currently on active duty.
