If you live in the Lone Star State, you’re used to wide-open spaces, friendly people, diverse, small towns, hot weather, and barbecue. As the saying goes, “Everything’s big in Texas,” including the vast assortment of scholarships available in military-friendly colleges.
The Austin Women in Media Scholarship
Awards $5,000
Description: For college sophomores, juniors, and seniors studying media or a related field at a university in the Austin area (within a 40-mile radius from Austin) must be carrying at least 12 credit hours, have a minimum GPA of 3.25, and have a declared major in radio, television, film, digital media, public relations, advertising, marketing, communications, journalism or broadcasting.

The BAFTX Susan Howard Community Service Award
Awards $5,000
Description: For young adults who have shown initiative and tenacity in conceptualizing, initiating, and/or organizing a community service project. Applicants must be a resident of Texas or Great Britain, be between the ages of 11 and 21, and currently working on an inspiring community service project or have done so within the past 12 months. Consideration is partially based on financial need.

The BAFTX Undergraduate Award
Awards vary.
Description: For Texas undergraduates enrolled in full-time education within the Texas education system who are majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, or Business can demonstrate financial need.

Fort Worth Scottish Rite Foundation Scholarships
Awards $1,500 (multiple awards)
Description: For Texas students who may or may not have any affiliation with the Scottish Rite but are graduating from a high school in one of the 33 counties served by the Fort Worth Scottish Rite and plan to begin, continue, or complete a 2-4 year post-secondary education or training program. (The list of counties is available on the scholarship application.)

The George and Mary Josephine Hamman Foundation Scholarship
Awards up to $20,000 over 4 years (multiple awards)
Description: For Houston area high school seniors in the following eight counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, or Waller applying for undergraduate study. These awards are based on academic standing and financial need.

The Hellenic Professional Society of Texas Scholarships
Awards vary. (Multiple awards.)
Description: For qualified undergraduate and graduate full-time students. Applicants are eligible for a scholarship if they are currently attending or have been accepted by a college or university in Texas, and the Society also accepts applications from students of “non-Greek descent” who show excellence in academic studies related to Greek issues.

Texas A&M University Century Scholarship
Awards $5,000 per year for 4 years. Multiple awards.
Description: For graduates of Texas graduate of a Century Scholar school. (A list of schools is available on the scholarship website.) Minimum GPA 2.75.

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP)
Awards vary. Two awards.
Description: For Texas high school seniors with the Distinguished Level of Achievement Plan or the International Baccalaureate Program. This program requires:
- A 3.0 GPA
- ACT of 23 or SAT of 1070
- An agreement to complete four years of ROTC training
- A four-year commitment to be a member of the National Guard, Coast Guard or serve on active duty.
